Department of Tourism Undersecretary for Tourism Regulation, Coordination and Resource Generation (TRCRG) Alma Rita Jimenez recently graced various activities in Region 2 in observance of the World Tourism Day 2016.

Some the activities attended by USEC Jimenez include the Cagayan Valley Region Tourism Council General Assembly (CVRTCGA) and the 1st Tourism Awards participated by the private and public sector last September 16 in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

For the CVRTC General Assembly, Secretary Jimenez who gave the Keynote Address spoke about agritourism in line with the theme “ In Focus: Agritourism”.

USEC Jimenez said “Farm Tourism will appeal to the transformed traveller who combines leisure with the opportunity to learn more about cultures, languages and heritage of the country they visit. The beneficiary of this increased business activities are the farmers that can augment their income by hosting farm tourists”

Jimenez added that a critical factor will be the public and the private sector working together with the communities and local government units so that the tourism experience will be seamless, enjoyable leisure, recreational and educational activity.

In the evening of the same day, USEC Jimenez graced the 1st Tourism Awards  by awarding the plaques of the Star Rated Awardees of the DOT Accredited establishments, the plaques of Recognized LGU Tourism Officers in Region 2 and DOT employees who marked their 25 years of service with the Department of Tourism, Region 2 since 1991.

USEC Jimenez’s message in the evening is all about consumer protection and making the stay of tourists in the establishments and localities pleasurable and satisfying. Usec Jimenez also explained that when the issuing of business licenses was devolved to the LGUs, the expertise in determining what kind of amenities should be present in a tourism enterprise in order to determine its accreditation category was left to the DOT.

Before USEC Jimenez flew back to Manila she had a short pilgrimage to Piat Basilica Minore, met with the LCE Mayor Carmelo Villacete and motored to the farm tourism site of Cagayan State University in Piat, Cagayan. She was accompanied by Grace Marzan, Chief of the Regional Monitoring Staff.
