Cagayan Valley & Northern Philippine Islands records 7.5 tourist increase in 1st half of 2017

Tourists  arrivals as of June 30, 2017 registered  an increase of 7.5%  over first semester 2016.  Tourist arrival totaling to 476,115 is composed of  331,134  domestic and 144,981 foreign. Data source for tourist arrivals are from the accommodation establishments within the region.

Same Day Visitor arrivals registered a decrease of of  69.20% over 2016. Same Day Visitor Arrival totaling to 714,548 is composed of 712,602 domestic and 1,946 foreign.  Data source for same day visitors are from the LGUs tourism sites/attractions and are still partial as of writing.

Gross receipts  from visitor spending reached Php3,079,253,660.00

The increased in tourist arrivals  is attributed to the improved access and connectivity to tourism attractions and destinations and the regular submission of accommodation establishment on monthly report of tourist arrivals, while the decrease in the same day arrival is due to partial submission of some LGUs on the report of same day arrival coming from the different tourism sites/attractions.  

The development, enhancement and marketing of wide range of diversified tourism products  through the development  initiation, cooperation and partnership to our local government units and accredited tourism enterprises allowed visitor to stay longer in the region.   We have marketing and promotional programs which includes the production and distribution of IEC materials, PR works, linkages with media and participation to sales mission in Canada,  travel fairs and exhibits.  For the first semester we have cruise ship visits in Calayan, Cagayan and Batanes.  Bagabag Airport in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya also opened last May 17, 2017  to boost the tourism industry and connectivity to the Northern Philippines

The office acted upon applications of tourism enterprises for new and renewal of accreditation. LGUs and accommodation staff were trained on local tourism statistics gathering and reporting system, aside from the conducted manpower trainings to tourism industry providers  to improve and upgrade their skills.
